April 6th 2008 will be remembered for the crazy amount of snow. Yesterday it was 50 degrees and we spent the afternoon shearing sheep. Today it is 28 degrees, with 18+ inches of snow, and we are making sure that sheep are still alive! The weather is brutal. It even warrants a snow day tomorrow! I told Grandpa and Grandma Butchy that they tried to miss winter, but it waited for them. This is the biggest snowfall amount we have had all winter. We are not happy, and neither are the poor animals. The donkeys look miserable with icicles hanging from their bellies. I'm glad I hadn't started combing out their winter coats yet.
We had a rough morning yesterday, we lost a shetland ewe who had just had a single ewe lamb
Friday afternoon. So I've leaped into the role of mama to an orphaned lamb. Kohen thinks it is the greatest to have his own baby lamb living in the mud room. Nate and I are adjusting. As is Woody, he chases the big sheep but is very intimidated by the five pound one living in his mudroom! She tries to nurse on him and tried to curl up on his bed with him tonight. Wood doesn't like to share.
Nate has decided that Kohen's days of naming our animals are over. We have TwoThree, HeeHaw, and Lucy thanks to Kohen's creativity. Well, he thought the new lamb's name should be "Little Sister." Ummm, no, I don't think so! Nate chose to name her in honor of our niece, Annalise. So the little black orphan lamb's name is now "Annafleece."
It's a change when I have to get up in the night and feed a baby, and Isaiah is sleeping! Last night I also treaked out into the storm twice to make sure there weren't any more wooly babies arriving in the storm. So far, so good. We'll keep you posted.
