So we made it to the animal swap today, despite our road washing out last night. They had more gravel hauled in by the time I left at 11:00 this morning. Kohen and I picked up Grandma Butchy and headed to Clinton Townhall. We came home 1 1/2 hours later with another outside cat and eight ducklings that are about 4 weeks old. Kohen is in love with his ducks, and his new cat.
Some of you might not know the origins to Grandma and Grandpa Butchy's name. When I was little I had problems keeping track of all my grandparents and great-grandparents (I had 4 grandparents, four great grandparents and two great-step grandmas!) What a blessed problem to have! So my great grandparents got to be Grandpa and Grandma Barnes, and Grandma and Grandpa Barnes went through a name change to G&G Butchy. In honor of their cat, Butchy. Scary how such a nickname sticks with you for thirty years and two generations! Kohen is calling the new cat Butchy, or black Butchy, because he is black with a small white patch on his chest and another on his tummy. Butchy and Nacho did a bit of a dance, but were hanging out in the late evening sun in front of the garage together.
Still no new lambs. We are wondering if the three remaining ewes are even pregnant. Now we are thinking about just putting them in the field with everybody else, and seeing what happens. If the weather stays nice we may do that.
Annafleece spent quite a bit of time outside today. She has learned that the great outdoors is much more hazardous than the mud room. This morning Lucy accidentally stepped on her front hoof, so she spent the next two hours limping around. Then this afternoon we put her in the field so she can learn to be a sheep, and she drank WAY too much water that was flowing through the field. She now has a bad case of scours, worse than ever before. She knows how to make up keep worrying. We'll switch her to straight electrolytes for the next few feedings, and hopefully we can get her back on track.
