Urho is our Icelandic Ram. This picture of him and
Kohen was taken last Sunday. Sadly he may not be with us tomorrow. He has pneumonia. He seemed a bit mellow the last couple of days, but the weather has not enabled us to spend as much time as we would like with the sheep. This morning he didn't come out when I went to check on everyone. I didn't think much of it since it was horrible weather and
Maon had only poked his head out. But when I went to feed everyone at 2,
Urho tried to come out and collapsed to the ground. A quick call to our angel in overalls vet, Gerry, and some tears as we waited.
Urho was so weak he couldn't even lift his nose off the hay. He didn't struggle at all when Nate carried him out to a bed of hay. Gerry came and said his lungs are filled with fluid and he thought it was too late. We moved
Urho into the mud room and he was given some antibiotics. His temperature was only at 97 degrees (102 is normal temp. for a sheep.)
Well, it is seven hours later and
Urho is trying hard to stay with us. His breathing has not improved, but he is still in the mud room, alive. He has eaten a few bites of grain, he has lifted his head and looked around some. We are hoping that he becomes our miracle sheep. Having lost four others in the last three weeks, I'm not too optimistic, but every minute he is alive is another minute for the antibiotics to start working. If you pray for animals,
Urho could use one tonight.
Kohen is pretty upset because
Urho and
Maon are his favorites. He had to blow
Urho kisses and loves on his way to bed tonight. Nate thinks I shouldn't post till I can write a eulogy, but I figured an ode was more appropriate tonight.
