Meet the 4-leggeds

So for the last two weeks our family's every move has pretty much been dedicated to or influenced by the four legged creatures we share our spot with. I guess it can be expected when you add fifteen additional bodies (that's 60 legs!) to your responsibilities. The addition of 40+ inches of heavy wet snow does not help anyone's leisure either. I'll try to introduce the previous animal tenants and the new in the next few posts.

Kohen kisses the Maon.

So first up is mister Maon (pronounced moon.) Moon is the shetland ram that we picked up last Friday. He is the dad to Annafleece and the other lambs that are being born right now. Maon is a very gentle, mellow ram. He likes to give kisses and licks. Kohen thinks he's great. We named him Maon because we are trying to choose celtic names for the shetlands. Maon means hero. He is currently Kohen's sheep hero, so it fits.

Next is Lucy. She was the second donkey purchased at the Hinckley Exotic Animal Auction. We did not plan on buying two donkeys. We did not plan on buying a pregnant donkey. This is the kind of crazy thing I am usually guilty of. Well, after five years of marriage I must be rubbing off on my husband, because it was all him. He held the number, He nodded his head, he bid on this donkey, after purchasing the one we had already checked out and agreed upon. I wasn't even in the building! But, I must say I'm glad he did buy her. She is a bit head shy but looking like she will make a great sheep guardian/pet. Dad came out today and spent some time starting to work on trimming her hooves, they have been very neglected. Mom and I had the pleasure of brushing thick winter coats, and starting to see some hairs shedding. It's been awhile since we got to experience this task, and never with donkey hair! Braeden and his parents stopped in for a visit today, he too was able to experience donkey hair.

Ok, here's the last one for tonight before I go and try to get ready for the week and get some boys to bed. Here he is, the infamous Heehaw. The donkey that Kohen named over six months ago, before we ever started donkey shopping. So far Kohen has only gotten to pet his nose, feed him treats, and sit on his back. We are unsure as of yet which donkey will have the permanent place in our field. Heehaw acts more friendly, but he has genuine donkey nature and is stubborn to lead. He also gets a bit too frisky with all the sheep. Only time will tell who is the better match. But for now we get the pleasure of experiencing two longears out our window each morning. You can't help but head out the door with a smile when the sight of you is greeted by a terrific amount of braying.
