Summer Vacation Rant

As a teacher it is a pet peeve of mine when I am asked how my summer vacation is going. Vacation? You would think I was on a trip or something. Not taking care of two kids, 13 sheep, 8 ducks, 4 cats, 1 dog and countless chickens. Along with helping a husband run his business, mowing the lawn, gardening, haying, and all the other fun chores that need to be done in the summer.

Ok, I'm done venting. I am just forever annoyed by vacation statements. There are not enough minutes in the day to get 1/4 of what I want done, done. Nate and I sat down today and I made THE LIST of all the bigger projects I would like to get done before I go back to work the end of August. Nate looked at the list, and decided to go wash the car, and sell the boat (mind you, neither of these tasks were on THE LIST!) If I can get the laundry caught up and bedrooms cleaned, maybe then I can begin to check off the big projects. Reconstruction of the screen porch, painting the chicken coop, organizing trim and recycled building materials...don't those sound like fun? If anyone's looking for a 'working holiday' (pay attention, I did NOT use the word vacation!!) I'll promise some good lake or river time, along with waking to rooster crows and donkey brays each morning, for some good old fashioned help.

Do you ever wonder about people who can just sit and let time pass them by, and do nothing? Neither Nate or I are very good at doing nothing. Even when I'm relaxing I have a computer, or a book, or a paper, something that is being 'done.' Obviously Kohen has inherited this same gene, he is on the go all the time, and is not a fan of sitting still. On that note I better go and water some sheep, donkeys, and ducks before it gets too dark to see. Here's a couple of pictures from the holiday weekend for your viewing enjoyment. No vacation here.
Kohen loves his ducks.

We enjoyed dinner with the Burckhardts on Friday night. Thanks Eric and Stephanie!

Papa with his two oldest grandsons, enjoying the lake on the fourth.

I'll post some more pictures tomorrow, especially the watermelon sherbert boy pics.
