Gramma Jan with the heartbreaker boys.
Gramma Jan was kind enough to drive up from Rochester since we didn't head down. She was our deliver driver, bringing heart shaped pizza, and wine kits. She also made a stop at Sam's Club for us. Thanks Gramma!

Turk was happy to enjoy the morning sunshine. He was strutting his stuff for the camera. We are still discussing raising some heritage turkeys this year. Let me know if you are in the area and interested.
Poor Isaiah is still under the weather. Along with his bronchitis and teeth coming in, he also has a sore butt from his antibiotic. Rough stuff. Thankfully I have tomorrow off for Presidents Day so he can get another day to recuperate.
We've received the final word that Bam and Ris had liver flukes. We are taking precautionary measures and planning on worming the entire flock with valbazen in case anyone else has liver flukes. Since it was a sunny morning and Jan was here to watch Isaiah we headed out to weigh everyone. We have a most unsophisticated method. It involves a small sheet of oxboard, and a bathroom scale. Nate catches and lifts the sheep to me, I hold them while standing on the scale, he reads the weight, and I record it on my chart (alphabetically of course!) The scale sits on the sheet of oxboard. Scar won the award for heaviest, at 103 pounds! Well, the heaviest of those we weighed. We chose not to weigh Sunny, she is just too big. I'll guestimate her weight when it is time to worm. I pulled records from when we wormed last April. Most of the ewes are twenty pounds heavier than they were then. Of course that was after shearing, but their condition is also much improved.

That is one amazing turkey! He's so gorgeous and ugly all at the same time.
Are you thinking of raising turkeys to butcher and sell? We might be interested in some to put in the freezer-but I'm not sure you had that in mind.
If that is your plan, let me know the details if you get it all started.
Happy Valentines Day late to you too. Hope Isaiah gets better. Have you tried giving him acidopholis or powerdopholis? It usually comes in a capsule that can be opened and sprinkled over any type of food or drink. It has a sweet taste anyway, he might just eat it for you. My boys love it, and it diminishes the bad side effects of the antibiotic. You probably know this. Just thought I'd mention it in case.
Hey Sabrina, thanks for the tip on Isaiah and the antibiotics. We'll look for some when we go in town today. Yes, we are planning on raising the turkeys to butcher and sell. Smoked turkey is one of our favorites around here, but we need to have more than just Turk so that the process is easier.
It does seem like it would be pretty hard to part with Turk.
Of course I just mentioned to Clancy about buying turkey from you :) and he thought it was a good idea. Apparently he knew some mean turkeys in his childhood and he does not intend to raise them himself. But we love eating roast turkey, turkey sandwiches, and turkey soup. Yum
