Spring?
After two nights of temps. in the 20's, I decided enough waiting, it's time to get some plants! We planted seeds in the garden last week, but had been waiting to get plants because of the cold nights. I had Nate pick up some of the "wall-of-water" things to put around the tomatoes and peppers. So this afternoon Kohen, Is and I headed to Vern's greenhouse in Mt. Iron. Kohen had no desire to go to the greenhouse until he saw the giant "blimp balloon" from the highway. Then he was all for it. I did my best to explain to him why he couldn't have a balloon like that and tie it to his wrist. I let him know he would float away. Not to be detered, Kohen responded, "Well can I have one for my birthday?"
It was a most enjoyable experience, Kohen was a great helper, though I came home with some extra flowers (I've never bought 3 six packs of marigolds in my life!) It looks like the cheery yellow and orange flowers will be planted in numerous locations this season. The good news is grandma says the deer don't usually eat them, so maybe it will be a good thing. Hopefully tomorrow night we'll be home early enough to get some of the planted.
In other events, school is winding down. I hopefully had my last team meeting today, and now have to get caught up on paperwork so I can have a worry free summer. I've promised my students that I will bring "AnnaFleece" for a visit on Friday. It should be an interesting time. Next week will be dedicated to paperwork. The students have track and field day and fieldtrips to wind down the year.
Here's a picture of what greets us when we walk out the door each morning. The ducks have blended right into our colorful flock. We now have three bantam hens setting on over 20 eggs between the three of them. We'll see who's successful at adding some fluff balls. The bantam hen that hatched out six babies last summer, Henrietta, is the most overachieving, currently trying to set on 16 eggs! I've been bringing her food and water in the guinea nesting box where she's camped out. Poor thing trying to make her little body cover all those eggs, and with the curent temps she doesn't get a break.
